ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Madeline Kimei is a corporate and commercial lawyer and dispute resolution professional who specializes in providing corporate and commercial legal support, domestic and international arbitration, commercial mediation and dispute management. She established a boutique corporate & dispute resolution firm and is currently the CEO responsible for the management, operations, strategy and business development of the company. She currently serves as a member of the Governing Council of the Tanganyika Law Society, Vice Chair of the Tanzania Institute of Arbitrators and Board member for MMG Gold Limited. Madeline also served as the in-house counsel and company secretary to the boards of Stanbic Bank Tanzania (2010-2012) and National Bank of Commerce Ltd (2013-2015), guiding and advising the board on corporate governance related issues and legal matters pertaining to the corporation.
Amani Khalifa is a counsel in the Global Projects Disputes Practice and an arbitration specialist. She handles large, complex construction disputes relating to projects throughout the MENA region with an emphasis on the real estate and oil and gas sectors. She has been recognised as a leader in arbitration by Who’s Who Legal. She is an arbitrator on the basketball arbitral tribunal, an independent tribunal recognised by FIBA and an anticorruption hearing officer of the Tennis Integrity Unit. Amani also sits frequently as arbitrator in infrastructure disputes throughout the MENA region.
Olga Hamama is an international dispute resolution lawyer. Over the last 10 years she has acted as counsel, arbitrator (sole arbitrator) and arbitral secretary in more than 40 international disputes and dispute-related matters. Her international background, experience and language skills place her in a unique position for resolution of cross-border disputes, especially when related to CIS countries, Ukraine and Georgia. In view of the increasing importance, Olga focuses on matters related to artificial intelligence, climate change, international sports and their intersections, as a profound understanding of these topics is indispensable to succeed in related disputes. Prior to co-founding V29 Legal, Olga was a member of the international arbitration group with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP. Olga worked in the firm’s Frankfurt, Brussels and Moscow offices, advising clients on matters with various cross-border elements, for example complex international commercial disputes, investment arbitration proceedings, the impact of EU sanctions on international transactions as well as compliance of national legislative initiatives with European regulations. Olga has represented and advised clients in connection with international arbitrations under the rules of major arbitral institutions, including CAS, DIS, ICC, ICSID, LCIA, SCC, Swiss, UNCITRAL and Vienna Arbitration rules, and at various seats, governed by a variety of substantive and procedural laws, including laws of Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, CISG, Cyprus, State of Delaware, Egypt, England, Georgia, Germany, India, Iran, Libya, The Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Spain, South Korea, Switzerland, Turkey and the Ukraine. She often provides strategic advise with regards to related/parallel court proceedings in administrative, civil and criminal courts, as well as questions of recognition and enforcement of foreign judgements and arbitral awards, requests for judicial assistance. Olga has also coordinated and managed more than 10,000 proceedings in six jurisdictions worldwide in a complex dispute in connection with manipulation allegations in the automotive industry. Olga has experience in various industry sectors, including the automotive, financial and energy sector as well as international sales. Olga has been involved in numerous sports arbitration proceedings concerning contractual disputes as well as disciplinary matters in connection with integrity issues before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). She is also advising clients on other sports-related matters, such as governance and transfer issues.
Dr. Nadja Harraschain is the founder and CEO of breaking.through and a legal clerk at the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court. Before beginning her legal training as a legal clerk, Nadja completed her Ph.D. thesis on „Multiple Proceedings in Investor-State Dispute Settlement” supervised by Prof. Dr. (em.) Ingeborg Schwenzer, LL.M. In parallel, Nadja founded breaking.through, worked for several renowned international law firms, spent three months as a Visiting Scholar at Columbia Law School in New York and worked as a lecturer for business law at the Administration and Business Academy Freiburg. Until recently, Nadja was also Pre-Moot Director at the Moot Academy. During her law studies at Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg, Nadja was a scholar of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation and worked at the chair of intellectual property law. Nadja is author of numerous publications on legal issues and on gender equality and is regularly invited as a speaker on both topics.
Rekha Rangachari is the Executive Director of the New York International Arbitration Center (“NYIAC”). Founded in 2013, NYIAC is a non-profit organization that promotes and enhances the conduct of international arbitration in New York, offers educational programming, and operates world-class hearing facilities for rent in Midtown Manhattan. Prior to joining NYIAC, Ms. Rangachari was Director of ADR Services for the New York Commercial Division of the American Arbitration Association-International Centre for Dispute Resolution (AAA-ICDR). Therein, she led the New York Corporate InnovAAAtion Team, and served on the Diversity Committee (spearheading initiatives for greater cross-cultural representation and collaboration) and the AAA-ICDR Foundation Committee (which has funded over 35 projects since its launch in 2015). She is a 2017 Recipient of the AAA-ICDR President’s Award for Service. Ms. Rangachari also served as Case Counsel for the ICDR, focusing her efforts on the European and Sub-Saharan Africa Regions. Rekha is actively engaged with the arbitration community at the city, state, national, and global levels. At the New York state and city levels, Rekha serves as Member of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) Dispute Resolution Section’s Executive Committee, Co-Chair of the International Disputes Resolution Committee, and Member of the NYSBA Planning Committee for the Judith Kaye Moot Court Competition; Member of the NYSBA International Section’s Executive Committee and Co-Chair of the International Contracts and Commercial Law Committee; and Member of the New York City Bar’s Women in the Legal Profession Standing Committee and Affiliate Member of the Arbitration Committee. Rekha is also Board Member of the New York Coalition of Women’s Initiatives and of the Association for Conflict Resolution of Greater New York. At the national level, at the American Society of International Law (ASIL), Rekha is Co-Chair of the Private International Law Interest Group (PILIG), and at the American Bar Association, Rekha is Member of the Executive Committee of the Section of Dispute Resolution and Co-Chair of the Young Professionals Committee. On the global level, Rekha is Member of ArbitralWomen and its Marketing Committee.
Isabel Yishu Yang is Founder & CEO at Arbilex, a project incubated at the Harvard Innovation Labs that leverages predictive analytics to empower international lawyers and litigation financiers to make data-driven decisions efficiently. She holds a BSc from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, a MSc. from the University of Oxford, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
