ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Chiann Bao is an Honorary Senior Fellow at BIICL. She practises as an independent arbitrator and mediator and has previously practice as counsel at international law firms in Hong Kong and New York. Chiann is a Vice President of the International Chamber of Commerce, Court of Arbitration and Chair of the ICC Commission Task Force on ADR. Between 2010 and 2018, she served as Secretary General and then Council Member of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. In these institutional roles, Chiann has advised governments on drafting arbitration legislation, local dispute resolution policies and strategies for promoting arbitration and mediation. She is currently working with several arbitration institutions with the establishment of their arbitration rules. Chiann regularly speaks and writes on the topic of international arbitration and dispute resolution and was the MC of the Delos webinar series, ‘In Conversation with Neil‘.
Fatima Balfaqeeh is a multi-disciplined professional who is an independent Arbitrator, Mediator, and a legal counsel. She is a member of the Charter Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), a Member in RICS as a chartered Facilities Management Surveyor, and a Member in the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply Chain (CIPS). Fatima comes with over 16 years of experience in dispute resolution and avoidance in construction-related matters, governance enforcement in contracts and procurement fields in government entities, project-related finance, payables, and banking credit facilities for cooperate clients. Fatima Balfaqeeh is a UAE National, with active involvement with the ICC-UAE as a Vice Chair to the Commission on Arbitration & ADR Steering Committee, and the Charted Institute of Arbitrators (CIarb) as the Vice Chair of the UAE Branch Committee, and a Board Member on the MENA advisory panel (MAP) of Royal Institute of Charted Surveyors (RICS), in addition to being listed as an Arbitrator and a Mediator in many more international and domestic ADR institutes.
Dara Sahab is an associate at Squire Patton Boggs. Dara advises on disputes in litigation and arbitration in commercial, construction and civil matters. She has advised clients in relation to US, UAE and KSA court proceedings, and international arbitration proceedings administered under different arbitration rules, including UNCITRAL, DIAC, ICC and LCIA. Before joining the firm, Dara worked in a litigation boutique firm in Washington DC and at a leading international law firm in Dubai.
