ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Kate Apostolova is a senior associate based in our Singapore office and has experience in both international commercial and investor-State arbitrations. Ranked No. 1 on Who’s Who Legal’s “Most Highly Regarded” list of non-partner international arbitration practitioners in Asia-Pacific for 2020, and described by clients as “a fine arbitration lawyer with outstanding knoweldge in the field,” “articulate and responsive,” “quick in analysing complex legal situations,” and “extraordinarily bright and quick on her feet,” Kate has extensive experience representing clients in a wide-range of industries, including oil & gas, mining, nuclear power, construction, finance, technology. She has been involved in cases before the US courts, ICTY, ECHR, ITLOS, and all major arbitral institutions. She has also undertaken sovereign advisory work in international law-related areas. Kate was adjunct faculty at the National University of Singapore, Faculty of Law from 2015 to 2017. She also served on the board of directors of Solutions to End Poverty (STEP). Kate previously worked as an associate at a prestigious international law firm in New York. Prior to that, she was a law clerk to the President of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and a research assistant to the late Professor David D. Caron. Kate has a juris doctorate degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where she was editor-in-chief of the Berkeley Journal of International Law. She is admitted to practice in England & Wales, New York, before the Supreme Court of the United States and the Singapore International Commercial Court. Kate speaks English, Bulgarian and Russian.
Luminita Popa focuses on international dispute resolution in a variety of business sectors, including energy, natural resources, infrastructure, construction and engineering, mergers and acquisitions, partnership & corporate governance. She acts as counsel or arbitrator in numerous proceedings under the rules of the main arbitration institutions and dispute resolution bodies. Luminita is recognized by Who’s Who Legal – Arbitration and is recommended in Legal 500 EMEA for Dispute Resolution, Energy & Natural Resources, PPP and procurement. She is also ranked for Disputes, Energy & Infrastructure and PPP/PFI in IFLR 1000 and for Dispute Resolution in Chambers Europe.Luminita Popa is a Court Member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration.
Ibukunoluwa Owa is a Visiting Foreign Lawyer with the international arbitration practice at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP in London. She is also a 5th year associate with the dispute resolution group at Aluko & Oyebode, Lagos. She has represented and advised clients in arbitration and litigation proceedings and arbitration related litigation, with a particular focus on energy related matters. In particular, she has significant experience in cost recovery disputes, gas supply agreements, exportation of crude oil, assignment of interests in oil fields, conversion of oil prospecting and mining licenses and review of facility agreements. Ibukunoluwa is qualified to practice in Nigeria. She completed her LL.B from University of Dundee, Scotland and LL.M in International Commercial and Maritime Law, from Swansea university, Wales. She is a member of various professional networks such as the Nigerian Bar Association, CIARB United Kingdom, Young ICCA and the Lagos Court of Arbitration Young Arbitrators’ Network.
