The event on “The Abraham Accords and Changes to the Arbitration Landscape in the Middle East”, organised jointly with Christos Georgiades & Associates LLC, took place on Wednesday 2 November 2022.  It featured Shai Sharvit (Gornitzky & Co.) and Agis Georgiades (Christos Georgiades & Associates LLC) (short bios below). The speakers discussed how the Abraham Accords have triggered reciprocal commerce and investment for the first time, and a result, it is expected that commercial and investment differences will arise and will have to be addressed, potentially creating a new market for dispute resolution institutes and practitioners.



Agis Georgiades is a partner of Christos Georgiades & Associates LLC (Nicosia, Paphos). His practice focuses on international litigation and arbitration. He has extensive experience in dealing with complex commercial, construction, energy, IP and fraud cases. Agis is a graduate of the University of Leeds and holds an LLM from LSE and Posgraduate Diplomas in International Arbitration, International Mediation and Negotiation. He is a Barrister of Lincoln’s Inn, a Fellow of CIArb and an Accredited Mediator. He was recently appointed by the Supreme Court of Cyprus as a member of the Committee for Amending the Rules of Civil Procedure.  He lectures on the law of evidence at the University of Nicosia.

Shai Sharvit is a partner at the law firm of Gornitzky & Co. in Tel-Aviv, Israel. His practice focuses mainly on international arbitration and complex commercial disputes, which have cross-border or multi-jurisdictional aspects, in various areas, including construction, insurance, technology and IP, shareholders disputes, D&O liability, class actions, real-estate, professional negligence, product liability.

Shai advised and represented clients in international arbitration, under the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Rules and advised on international arbitration matters under the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) rules, the ICC Rules, the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) rules, UNCITRAL Arbitration rules and the American Arbitration Association (AAA) rules, and also sits as arbitrator in commercial disputes.

Shai is a member of the Court of the LCIA, is a member of UNCITRAL experts group on high tech disputes, the commission on arbitration and ADR of ICC (Paris), the task force on emergency arbitrator of the ICC, and serves as an ambassador of the ICC Commission on the Belt & Road Initiative.

Shai was part of the faculty for the first ROAP EMEA edition in 2021.
